ANNEALED GLASS

ANNEALED GLASS is not tempered.  It can break into large pieces that can fall and become quite dangerous on the way down.  Unlike Tempered Safety Glass that is cut to size,

then reheated in the ovens, so that when it breaks - it falls into thousands of 1/4" pieces that is less

likely to hurt anyone.

"Anneal" means

1 a : to heat and then cool (as steel or glass) usually for softening and making less brittle; also : to cool slowly usually in a furnace b : to heat and then cool (double-stranded nucleic acid) in order to separate strands and induce combination at lower temperature with complementary strands

This is the Process that makes our glass today.  Old glass and sand and a few other things are melted in a big pot then poured out into a flat surface where it is regulated into certain

thickness 1/32" - 1/8" - 3/16" - 1/4" and so on, and allowed to cool.  Then cut into pre-determined lengths it is sold to Glass Wholesale suppliers.  Where we (Glass Shops) buy

it in large sheets that we can carry back to the shop and cut it down to sizes that are needed in Commercial and Residential applications.
